Flicked is built privacy-first. Your videos, recordings, and edits stay on your device. We don't see your content, we don't sell your data, and we don't run ads.
1. Who we are
Flicked is developed and operated by the Flicked team ("we", "us", "our"). For any privacy questions, contact our Data Protection Representative:
2. What data we collect
2.1 Data that stays on your device (never leaves)
- Videos and recordings — all content you record, import, or create is stored locally on your iPhone. We never upload, access, or process your media on our servers.
- Transcripts — speech-to-text transcription is processed on-device using local models where possible. When cloud transcription is used (see 2.2), only the audio is sent temporarily for processing.
- Projects and edits — all editing state, captions, overlays, transitions, and project files are stored locally in your app's sandboxed storage.
- Scripts — teleprompter scripts you create are stored locally.
2.2 Data processed temporarily in the cloud
- Cloud transcription — when on-device transcription is unavailable, audio is sent to a secure third-party transcription service for processing. Audio is processed in real-time and is not stored after transcription is complete. No video is ever sent.
2.3 Data we collect
- Anonymous analytics — we may collect anonymous usage data (which features are used, app performance). This data contains no personal information, no video content, and no account identifiers. You cannot be identified from this data.
- Crash reports — we may collect crash diagnostics to improve app stability. These contain device type, OS version, and stack traces — no personal data or content.
- Waitlist information — if you join our waitlist, we collect your email address and optional survey responses, stored for the sole purpose of notifying you about early access.
2.4 Flicked Plus (subscription)
- Subscription management — handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive an anonymous subscriber identifier to verify your subscription status. We do not receive your Apple ID, payment details, or billing information.
- Cloud sync (future feature) — Flicked Plus may offer optional cloud backup of project data. If enabled, project metadata and media would be encrypted and synced to secure cloud storage. This feature will be opt-in and clearly disclosed before activation. Cloud sync will never be enabled without your explicit consent.
2.5 Data we never collect
- Your name, phone number, or physical address
- Your video or audio content (except temporary cloud transcription as described above)
- Your contacts, photos library, or other app data
- Location data
- Advertising identifiers or tracking data
- Data for third-party advertising (we don't run ads)
3. How we use your data
- Analytics: to understand which features are used and improve the app
- Crash reports: to identify and fix bugs
- Waitlist emails: to notify you about early access and product updates
- Subscription verification: to confirm your Flicked Plus status
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties. Ever.
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland:
- Legitimate interest — anonymous analytics and crash reporting, to maintain and improve the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR)
- Consent — waitlist signup and any future cloud sync features (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)
- Contract performance — subscription verification to deliver Flicked Plus features (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR)
5. Data sharing
We may share limited data with the following categories of service providers, solely to operate the app:
- Cloud transcription provider — audio only, processed in real-time, not stored
- Apple — App Store distribution and in-app purchase processing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data with any third party. We do not share data with advertisers.
6. Data retention
- On-device data: retained until you delete it or uninstall the app
- Cloud transcription audio: processed in real-time, not stored
- Analytics data: retained for up to 24 months, then automatically deleted
- Crash reports: retained for up to 90 days
- Waitlist emails: retained until you request removal or the waitlist is closed
7. Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time for consent-based processing
- Lodge a complaint — with your local data protection authority

8. Children's privacy
Flicked is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our service providers may process data outside your country. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions).
10. Security
All on-device data is protected by iOS sandboxing and device encryption. Cloud communications use TLS encryption. We follow industry-standard security practices for any data we process.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or on this page. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version.
